Margarida Serrano is a producer born in Évora-Portugal in 1997 and currently based in São Paulo-Brazil. After completing her graduation in Communication Studies in Lisbon she moves to Brazil and after experiences working in museums and theater production, starts to work in Aruac Filmes, a cinema independent production company where currently works as production coordinator and assistant director. Among the works carried out in Aruac, highlights “The Falling Sky” (2024), a co-production Brazil-Italy filmed in the Brazilian Amazon forest, directed by Eryk Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha premiered in Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Cannes, an award winning film selected for more than 60 festivals around the world. In 2023, alongside Rocha and Carneiro da Cunha, she produced 3 short-films directed by young indigenous yanomami filmmakers: “Mãri hi – The Tree of Dream” by Morzaniel Ɨramari, “Yuri u xëatima thë - The Fishing with Timbó” and “Thuë pihi kuuwi - A Woman Thinking” (Best Brazilian Short-film of 2023), both by Aida Harika, Roseane Yariana and Edmar Tokorino. The shorts are the result of a series of audiovisual workshops with the Yanomami filmmakers carried out by Aruac Filmes and Hutukara Yanomami Association. They have been circulating worldwide in festivals, museums, art galleries, schools and universities. In 2021, she worked as post production coordinator of the feature documentary EDNA by Eryk Rocha that circulated in several festivals around the world and was awarded as Best Film in France, Italy, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey and Argentina. In 2020, produced the short-film REVERSE GEAR, by Eryk Rocha and commissioned for the 11th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. In parallel with the activities in cinema, since 2017 develops her authorial drawing work called TODO TORTO that consist in a series of graphical experiences and non-realistic drawings in different formats.
