Arresting God
- Logline
- Arresting God is about the unusual friendship between WMD, an Iraqi-Muslim refugee, whose entire civilian family is killed in an American airstrike and AJ an Sikh-American soldier who fought in the war. WMD is a punk rocker and uses unusual anti-Iraq war protest tactics, such as changing her name from Waheeda to WMD in reference to the weapons of mass destruction that were never found. She rides her bike everywhere with a large billboard attached to the back. It depicts the photos of her family members who were killed in Iraq. Making sure her family doesn’t disappear in history as just “collateral damage.” AJ is fighting her own battle to be accepted as an American, but she is nonetheless discriminated against because of the color of her skin. WMD and AJ bond over being treated as “other”, and together, fight to have the names of WMD’s family members included in the war memorial being built to honor AJ’s fallen friends.
